Lausen, Switzerland. Family Blauenstein and friends work out how to set off flaming lanterns from a dark Swiss hillside.

Finally we get our act together and send these delightful Chinese cattle-killers off into space.

The just past full moon was a beautiful backdrop to our flaming orange lanterns. No wind lower down in this protective valley meant the lanterns went up in all directions until they caught the very slight wind blowing over the top of the valley, and passed across moonlit clouds.

For a while, I thought I was in the cub scouts again.
