Some people believe they have the right to do whatever they want, regardless of the impact upon the lives or wishes of others. This year the Indignados became the Occupy movement, making this point of the wealthy elite. But it applies exactly the same to young “anarchists”. I questioned one young man about his freedom to behave selfishly and received a storm of aggression, a pepper-spray of violent words, threats and abuse, because I stated matters in terms of rules and boundaries which should be observed. This was exactly the same kind of “fuck you” scorn as the “1%” pour upon the protesters, as they set their paid, uniformed thugs upon them to shoot out eyes and stamp on hands and feet.
Seems that what both “anarchists” and “1%” share is this sense of entitlement that their right to act selfishly cannot be questioned, and a determination to use violence to prevent changes being enforced. The difference is that the “1%” do not pretend to be progressive, while the “anarchists” do, making them the worse hypocrites. Anarchy doesn’t mean living without rules, it means, living without leaders.
