Avaaz are running a campaign to show support for people in Egypt by using radio, since the internet is blocked and mobile networks intermittent.
Public gatherings are illegal in this country which has been in a constant state of "emergency" since Mubarak took power in 1981, 30 years ago, yet Egyptians have poured onto the streets in protest at their living conditions, systemic corruption, lack of democratic representation, and police brutality.
I feel connected to the place – I wrote a book there. It’s been special to me ever since.
I don’t know if the people will be able to easily change the regime they have had for the last 30 years, but I admire their bravery and I salute their courage.
