Today I turned 47. I feel better than I did 20 years ago. I certainly look far more gorgeous. I put that down to therapy, love, not drinking alcohol, exercise and meditation. I am not prescribing this as a remedy for all, but it has worked for me.

Some while ago things started to change for me. Since the dawn of this puny, debt-exploded century, I have found more creative ways to channel frustration, upset and anger, and thus my fortunes are improved. Not by the way that I am materially rich, far from it. While I have lost some people over the years, I have also made wonderful friends, and for this I am truly grateful.

One thing I wouldn’t swap for youth is the increased patience with regards to myself. However annoying I may be, remember, I actually have to live here. Thanks everyone for not over-reacting to my occasional spikiness, challenging nature and my tendency to randomly blame others for my own failings. Usually I self-correct, given the opportunity. And for those of you who do over-react, I suggest finding A New Earth – something we all need.

I was talking to myself just the other day and we agreed you were truly a handsome man.

And beginning to take on a bit of a Tolkienesque quality.
