That may change as I grow older, but so far, the big scary imponderable is that death is, as far as we know, the end. Curtains. Finito. Kaput.<\/p>\n<p>Much as I love the ideas and the poetry in Christian and Pagan mythology, I am aware that the ideas come from an age when rationality and scientific proof was not a requirement of truth; and much as I am aware that Science has its own <a HREF=\"http:\/\/whatis.techtarget.com\/definition\/0,,sid9_gci341236,00.html\" target=_blank>fatal flaws<\/a> I tend to react instinctively as a product of the 20th Century. I hate to think that my very survival beyond this monkey frame depends upon my conception of the world; then again, rather that than being told, it&#8217;s Jesus\/Mohammed\/Buddha\/YourNameHere, or you fry forever in a vat of your own disbelief.<\/p>\n<p><img SRC=\"http:\/\/www.streetswing.com\/histmai2\/gif\/1sinatra1.gif\" align=right>So what ARE my beliefs? I completed a Home Office questionaire yesterday, and one of the questions was, religion? I answered, Pagan Agnostic. Which is about right. I like Paganism of the Western kind, I distrust all the imported eastern religions. Then again, on what basis can I make a choice? Is there a choice to be made?<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s at times like this I turn to the words of <a HREF=\"http:\/\/www.canoe.ca\/JamMusicPopEncycloPagesA\/anka.html\" target=_blank>St Paul:<\/a><\/p>\n<p><i>And now, the end is near;<br \/>And so I face the final curtain.<br \/>My friend, I\u2019ll say it clear,<br \/>I\u2019ll state my case, of which I\u2019m certain.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve lived a life that\u2019s full.<br \/>I\u2019ve traveled each and ev\u2019ry highway;<br \/>And more, much more than this,<br \/>I did it my way.<\/p>\n<p>Regrets, I\u2019ve had a few;<br \/>But then again, too few to mention.<br \/>I did what I had to do<br \/>And saw it through without exemption.<\/p>\n<p>I planned each charted course;<br \/>Each careful step along the byway,<br \/>But more, much more than this,<br \/>I did it my way.<\/p>\n<p>Yes, there were times, I\u2019m sure you knew<br \/>When I bit off more than I could chew.<br \/>But through it all, when there was doubt,<br \/>I ate it up and spit it out.<br \/>I faced it all and I stood tall;<br \/>And did it my way.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve loved, I\u2019ve laughed and cried.<br \/>I\u2019ve had my fill; my share of losing.<br \/>And now, as tears subside,<br \/>I find it all so amusing.<\/p>\n<p>To think I did all that;<br \/>And may I say &#8211; not in a shy way,<br \/>No, oh no not me,<br \/>I did it my way.<\/p>\n<p>For what is a man, what has he got?<br \/>If not himself, then he has naught.<br \/>To say the things he truly feels;<br \/>And not the words of one who kneels.<br \/>The record shows I took the blows &#8211;<br \/>And did it my way!<\/i><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Since losing my morbid fears, I have not feared the actual process of dying.
