As I reach the final limerick in the nothing-to-do-with-charity International Limerick Writing Month, I’m pleased to report that I have received responses in limerick form every bit as good as those I have produced, collaborated on four stanzas, and had the great compliment of being able to read many of these limericks aloud to a room full of appreciative listeners. I may do that again.<\/p>\n

This limerick approaches one of the central questions of our age, perhaps of all ages: humanity’s place in the cosmos. Do we have anyone\/thing\/deity to blame or praise for our existence? I’ll start with Albert Einstein:<\/p>\n

Einstein’s belief in God
\nRationalists find quite odd
\nMathematics sublime,
\nRedefining space\/time,
\nA nobler path seldom trod;<\/p>\n

But, confusingly, Albert believed
\nThe cosmos is consciously weaved..
\nGalaxies random?
\nNo, somebody planned ’em
\nHow odd, if not God, he conceived.<\/p>\n

Great wisdom made Albert suspect
\nThat no matter how humans connect
\nTime’s linear stream
\nIs not what it seems
\nWhen you get the equations correct.<\/p>\n

But he hated the nuclear rumble,
\nFeared civilisation would tumble.
\nHis lesson for man:
\nThink as big as you can
\nBut never forget to be humble.<\/BLOCKQUOTE><\/p>\n
