{"id":1526,"date":"2009-04-06T00:01:11","date_gmt":"2009-04-06T00:01:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/theothersideofeverything.com\/flip\/?p=1526"},"modified":"2009-04-06T10:53:45","modified_gmt":"2009-04-06T10:53:45","slug":"google-gatecrashed-john-cleeses-podcast","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theothersideofeverything.com\/flip\/2009\/04\/google-gatecrashed-john-cleeses-podcast\/","title":{"rendered":"Google Gatecrashed John Cleese&#8217;s Podcast?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Somebody apparently logged in to the blog which I run from my Blogger \/ Google account which controls the <a href=\"http:\/\/johncleesepodcast.co.uk\">John Cleese podcast<\/a> and made a post entitled &#8220;1238807249657&#8221; with the text of the post: &#8220;eeyore is cute!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/theothersideofeverything.com\/flip\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/picture-2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"998\" height=\"851\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1528\" title=\"picture-2\" src=\"http:\/\/theothersideofeverything.com\/flip\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/picture-2.png\" alt=\"John Cleese Podcast\" srcset=\"https:\/\/theothersideofeverything.com\/flip\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/picture-2.png 998w, https:\/\/theothersideofeverything.com\/flip\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/picture-2-300x255.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 998px) 100vw, 998px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This was pointed out to me on Twitter by <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/lozzykinz\">@lozzykinz<\/a>, a fan of John&#8217;s, who saw the RSS appear on <a href=\"http:\/\/thecheeseshop.ning.com\">John&#8217;s Ning community page<\/a> and was confused by it enough to contact me and ask what it meant. It&#8217;s five entries down on the left hand column.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/theothersideofeverything.com\/flip\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/picture-4.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1119\" height=\"766\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1527\" title=\"picture-4\" src=\"http:\/\/theothersideofeverything.com\/flip\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/picture-4.png\" alt=\"Ning\" srcset=\"https:\/\/theothersideofeverything.com\/flip\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/picture-4.png 1119w, https:\/\/theothersideofeverything.com\/flip\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/picture-4-300x205.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1119px) 100vw, 1119px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>When I clicked the link <a href=\"http:\/\/www.johncleesepodcast.co.uk\/cleeseblog\/2009\/04\/1238807249657.html\">http:\/\/www.johncleesepodcast.co.uk\/cleeseblog\/2009\/04\/1238807249657.html<\/a> it revealed a page which takes a long time to load, made at 1:04 am April 4th 2009, and I noticed that an address was being called which I traced back to Google using Network Utility:<\/p>\n<p><strong>0.blogger_loadtest.server.blogger.gg.borg.google.com<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a real server on Google&#8217;s domain.<\/p>\n<p>Now, I haven&#8217;t given anyone access to my account, nor have I accessed it from an insecure place &#8211; I&#8217;m behind two firewalls. As far as I know the password hasn&#8217;t been compromised (it&#8217;s now changed) and I am the sole author on this blog.<\/p>\n<p>The post doesn&#8217;t show up in the list of posts internally:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/theothersideofeverything.com\/flip\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/internal_blogger.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1173\" height=\"478\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1530\" title=\"internal_blogger\" src=\"http:\/\/theothersideofeverything.com\/flip\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/internal_blogger.png\" alt=\"Blogger Posts\" srcset=\"https:\/\/theothersideofeverything.com\/flip\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/internal_blogger.png 1173w, https:\/\/theothersideofeverything.com\/flip\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/internal_blogger-300x122.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1173px) 100vw, 1173px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Did Google really gatecrash John Cleese&#8217;s podcast, and my account, to run some kind of server test? If they did, it represents a gross breach of trust.
